Water Efficiency Management Plans
Water efficiency should be a part of everyday business practices and management procedures. Water efficiency planning helps businesses better manage their water use, save on water costs, improve efficiency and reduce business water consumption.
All premises using more than 10ML a year need to complete, submit and comply with a Water Efficiency Management Plan (WEMP). Some other specific industries also need to complete WEMPs.
These plans help businesses to:
- audit their workplace
- identify water saving measures
- develop a plan to implement measures
Measures have been in place since November 2006. By November 2008, water users were required to reduce their water consumption by 25 per cent or achieve best practice (whichever is less).
Water Efficiency Assessors will help businesses draw up and audit their plans.
Guidelines have been developed to assist businesses, assessors and service providers complete the plans and drive further savings.
