Tyco Water

Tyco Water has successfully slashed water use by 40 per cent at both its Gold Coast and Wacol plants.

The company is Australia’s largest manufacturer of water supply products, and as the major supplier for the South East Queensland Water Grid, the company is well aware of the need to conserve water.

Tyco Water views water efficiency as essential to day to day production activities, and despite increased production the company has still managed to cut water use to 55 kilolitres a day at Currumbin and 65 kilolitres per day at Wacol.

To achieve this saving a number of measures were introduced at the plants.

These include:

  • Weekly monitoring and recording of sub-meters to assess water consumption, to detect irregularities and to address them
  • Retrofit of dual toilets and automated flushing urinals
  • Installation of taps, showers and trigger sprays with a 3-star efficiency rating or better
  • Removal of all unnecessary outside taps
  • Hygiene awareness training for all employees
  • Break glass boxes installed on fire hose reels
Tyco Water is also looking at rainwater harvesting and converting of waste water to water to be recycled back into the production processes.
