Brisbane Airport Corporation
The Brisbane Airport Corporation has achieved a massive 70 percent saving on its 2004/05 water usage.
Water saving initiatives include:
- Installation of a 5 megalitre rainwater tank at the International Terminal
- A second 30 megalitre freshwater lake for construction requirements and irrigation
- New monitoring and detection program to dramatically increase the response time to water network leakages
- Overhaul of natural land and soil management, plant selection and maintenance, led by a comprehensive landscape master plan focusing on native species which are drought and salt tolerant, as well as soil amelioration and replacement
- New building efficiency guidelines for more than 130 business tenants on the airport, including improved irrigation and water re-use systems, designed ultimately to make all Airport activities sustainable.
- Conversion of air-conditioning cooling towers to A+ standard recycled water - removing the need for the use of town water for these activities
- Continued implementation of water reduction devices in all buildings
